Grounds Maintenance & Additional Works Operative

Salary: Starting at £30,000

Job Description

Due to a growth in work within the Additional Works Division, MBS are looking for Full time enthusiastic and skilled Grounds Maintenance and Additional Works Operative to join our fast-paced team, carrying out commercial Grounds Maintenance and related additional works on managed developments, primarily in the South East.

The right candidate will be supplied with their own van and equipment, based at our main depot near Chelmsford. You will supply our clients with a high-quality service and be able to adapt to needs that arise on site. There is room for progression with fully paid training and courses and career growth with a 35-year established regional Grounds Maintenance company.

Requirements of Grounds Maintenance and Additional Works Operative

  • Experience in this industry, (2 years) either in horticulture/gardening or grounds/landscape maintenance with good time management skills and able to demonstrate your experience in this industry preferable, with tickets but training will be given. Provide references when required.
  • You will need to be able to get to our depot near Hatfield Peverel/Chelmsford for early morning starts ready for traveling to sites.
  • Strong experience with machine handling including grounds maintenance power tools, diggers, ride on mowers, MEWPs, tractors is preferred.
  • An average of 40 – 45 hours can be assumed in peak season.
  • Qualifications in horticulture would be an asset, e.g. Hort/RHS diploma, PA1 & PA6 spray certificates, and machinery tickets. Please state if you have these when applying.
  • Driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Be self-motivated and able to work under your own initiative.
  • Able to understand and use cloud-based systems for reporting and job analysis.
  • Able to understand the importance of client/customer satisfaction and able to converse responsibly when requested.

Skills

  • Proficient in the use of power tools and hand tools for various maintenance tasks.
  • Experience in soft landscaping, including gardening, and groundskeeping techniques.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in all tasks undertaken.
  • Good communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and external contractors.

Expected Additional Works task skills (preferable although not all necessary)

  • Grass cutting in large areas using ride on mowers and other specialist grass cutting equipment.
  • Gutter clearances and use of gutter vac
  • Gritting and use of salt spreader
  • Weed spraying and use of boom sprayer
  • Some minor tree works/ hedge works
  • Digger use
  • Tractor and flail use
  • Soft landscaping
  • Fence installation

Details of the Role

  • Salary: Starting at £30,000 which is negotiated at/after interview, based on experience, qualifications, and demonstration of industry knowledge.
  • 28 days holiday including Bank holidays, on a pro rata basis per year.
  • Job Type: Full-time (Monday to Friday)
  • Weekend work optional when available
  • Overtime when available
